Becoming A Teacher

I remember, when I was a kid, I wanted to become the President of the Philippines but then change it after 4th grade… realized it could not happen… LOL! I had a variety of things I wanted to be when I grow up. I used to think of becoming a doctor, a dancer, a vet, an engineer, a lawyer and even a scientist. Oh… my childhood dreams make me laugh… those were just the split second thoughts of my wildly running imagination when I was a kid. :)

When I was growing up and went to college, I never thought about becoming a teacher. I studied to become a nurse for 4 years...and here I am, I ended up a teacher.

The idea of standing in front of a classroom scared the heck out of me. I was like… WHOAH! This is way too big for me! LOL! I hesitated at first because I know that being a teacher is a very tough job and there’s no ready-made formula for good teaching. It really requires an enormous amount of patience. Not only that, as a teacher, we are considered the second parents of our pupils and it’s a big responsibility. Teachers are the ones that influence a child. We motivate and mold them. And sometimes, sad to say, out of all the hard work you’ve been doing to your pupils, you still get to be critized in the end. Fact of life! :D

Well, it only took me a few months of standing in front of them and I realize this was the job I wanted to do. NAX! Hahaha… Simply saying, I fell in love with my job and I felt a pure and strong fondness for my students. By the time my first year was over, I knew I wanted to continue being a teacher.

I have to be honest, becoming a teacher is very exhausting, stressful, and  difficult. There are so many things that makes a teacher’s life difficult and I’m going to name a few: noise, snotty noses, mouthy kids, flibbertigibets, things that don’t work, things that work but are just a pain in the ass, parent’s that don’t care, parent’s that care too much, 24/7 on your mind… need I go on? Haha… but here’s the very good part of it. Hard all this is, being a teacher means you’re molding a child, enriching and nurturing someone’s life, participating in the creation of something which is so valuable that so few will ever recognize it. Teaching brings joy at the end of the day because it’s fun, enlightening, and rewarding beyond compare.
